Every employee deserves a doctor in the family

Steven Chavez, VP of Navigation Service Delivery at RightwayOctober 15, 2026

Most people find out how hard healthcare is to navigate on a bad day. Maybe a scan comes back with something unexpected, or a prescription costs far more at the counter than anyone said it would. People with a physician in the family have the privilege of making one phone call and getting a straight answer. Everyone else has to guess.

That gap is why we started Rightway. We wanted every employee to have what a well-connected family has: an advocate with clinical training who knows the plan and the local providers, and who stays on the line until the problem is solved.

Here is what that looks like in practice. One of our employees was expecting her first child. She was not sure which hospitals were in network, and her friends had given her wildly different numbers on cost. She messaged Rightway and was connected right away with one of the nurses on her care team, Maya.

Nurse Maya started by asking questions. Which OB was the employee already seeing? What mattered most to her about the birth? The employee said she wanted a strong NICU close to home, but she was nervous about cost because her deductible had barely been touched. Maya pulled up her plan and compared the hospitals within 30 minutes of her house on quality outcomes and on what each one actually charged. Three were in network. The employee’s expected out-of-pocket cost at one was higher than the others, and the lower-cost hospital also had a level III NICU and lower complication rates. Maya walked her through both options in plain language, confirmed that her OB delivered at the hospital she chose, and helped her book the next prenatal visit.

The help continued after that first conversation. At 28 weeks, the employee messaged at 9 p.m. wondering whether her glucose test would be covered. Maya had the answer the next morning, along with a lab that cost less than the one her OB’s office had suggested. And after the baby arrived, a hospital bill included a charge the employee did not recognize. Maya reviewed it with the billing office and found a duplicate, which was removed.

Employers feel the same problem from the other side. They pay for a benefit that employees struggle to use, and complexity is expensive. But when navigation works, people use it. In this employee’s case, the employer got a lower-cost delivery, a corrected bill, and an employee who now trusts the benefit enough to use it again.

Rightway gives employee someone in their corner while providing employers with a benefit people use and a cost line that moves in the right direction.
